Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, which achieved the highest sales performances since its foundation in 2022, will launch its first pure electric vehicle, the Spectre, in Korea in June of this year. This will be the first launch in Asia. The luxury car brand achieved strong business results based on the Asia-Pacific region, explaining that the Korean market significantly contributed to the strong business results.
“Korea is a very important market for Rolls-Royce,” said Torsten Müller-Ötvös, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motor Cars, in a meeting with reporters at the Signiel Seoul Hotel in Jamsil, Seoul at 9:00 am on March 22. “It is growing very fast. We will launch the Spectre in Korea for the first time in Asia.”
Thanks to its strong sales performances in the Asia-Pacific region where the Korean market belongs, Rolls-Royce sold a total of 6,021 units worldwide last year. This represented an 8 percent increase from 2021. It marked the first time that Rolls-Royce’s annual sales have exceeded 6,000 units.
Rolls-Royce sold 234 units in Korea last year, coming close to 240 units sold in Japan during the same period, said the Korea Automobile Importers & Distributors Association (KAIDA). Since Rolls-Royce opened its Seoul showroom in 2004, the Seoul showroom has grown into one of the world’s top five Rolls-Royce dealerships.
The possibility of Rolls-Royce’s collaboration with Korean battery companies was also raised. “Rolls-Royce is cooperating with the BMW Group in the battery sector,” a Rolls-Royce official said. “We have collaborated with BMW since the beginning of Specter development. Rolls-Royce is receiving batteries from China’s CATL and Korea’s Samsung SDI. We will load the Spectre with batteries from one of the two battery makers.”
