Volkswagen is putting the casual back into casual Friday as they’ve used LinkedIn to tease the upcoming ID.3.
Set to debut on March 1, the “second-generation” EV is getting a “comprehensive upgrade” that includes new taillights. Volkswagen didn’t say much about them, but they’re slimmer than their predecessors and apparently have a startup sequence that shows an X-shape.
Originally announced last December, the updated ID.3 will have a “matured” but evolutionary design. Sketches suggest it will have a sportier front bumper with vertical air curtains as well as a more stylish lower intake. We can also expect familiar headlights and a similar body as it’s really more of a facelift.

The interior is also set to be evolutionary, but Volkswagen has already confirmed the model will have upgraded equipment as well as a new infotainment system with a 12-inch display. Sketches also suggest augmented reality navigation will be front and center.
Little else is known about the car at this point, but it will have a Plug & Charge capability as well as the “latest generation of fully integrated assist systems.” Among the latter will be Travel Assist with Swarm Data and Park Assist Plus with a Memory Function.
Due to high demand, Volkswagen will begin building the ID.3 in Wolfsburg in addition to Dresden and Zwickau. The model went up for order in December and German pricing starts at €43,995 for the ID.3 Life. At the time, the company said customers who got their orders in early could expect to take delivery in the fourth quarter of 2023.
