CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (WDEF)- In downtown Chattanooga at the “Bend,” Drive Electric Scenic City hosted an event called ” Cars and Coffee.”

The event is used to spread awareness about electric vehicles while also giving car lovers a chance to show off their hot rides.

D-E-C-S is a local group with the goal of getting 200,000 electric cars on the roads in Tennessee by 2028.

Dave Graham, Coordinator of Drive Electric Scenic City believes people should consider the transition since more manufacturers are moving that way as well. He believes electric vehicles are the future, “Most of the manufacturers are committing to, by as early as 2035, they don’t intend to be building combustion vehicles any longer. It’s going to be transition to all electric vehicles. Now that’s not to say that these cars that run by gasoline are going to disappear from the road, but Ford, Volkswagen, and GM are committed to only building electric vehicles by 2035.”

Graham also said he believes transitioning is worth it for the environment, even if the process may not be easy, “It’s gonna present some challenges for the power providers like TVA and EPB because they’re going to have to be ready to charge a lot of vehicles which historically have relied on fuel stations to fuel their vehicles. That’s not to say that gas stations are going to disappear, but I suspect more and more of them are going to allow for charging of electric vehicles too.”
