The car wash, which is off Warrington Road, in Culcheth, could be demolished to make way for electric car charging facilities.

Currently, the car wash is associated with the BP garage in the village, next to the Spice Lounge.

According to the plans submitted to the council’s planning boffins, the plans would see the car wash removed and replaced with seven parking bays for the use of electric vehicles.

There are limited documents available for the planning proposal, given the small scale of the project – planning regulations state that developments smaller than 100 square metres do not require a ‘design and access’ statement, for example.

The proposal includes the specifications for a required substation that would be necessary for the development.

According to the documents made available on the planning portal, there would be seven canopies associated with the charging bays, which would go some way to provide shelter for the equipment used.

It is not expected that the plans will impact the current provision for eight fuelling bays at the petrol station.

The plans to demolish the BP station’s car wash and replace it with electric vehicle charging bays is currently under consideration by the council’s planning officers, with a decision due by Friday, May 19.
