A cross between a platypus and a marsupial, the Niffler is a deceptively cuddly beast in Hogwarts Legacy known for its mischievous ways and love of shiny objects. You’ll invariably need to track down several during your playthrough to keep you stocked in Niffler Fur to fuel gear upgrades at the Enchanted Loom. But finding and capturing them can be a little tricky.
In this guide, we’ll outline the best way to get a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy. Before setting off to hunt down a Niffler, you’ll want to wrap up the The Elf, The Nab-Sack, and the Loom quest, during which Deek, the house elf, will hand over the Nab-Sack, a crucial tool to catch magical beasts around Hogwarts.

How to Find a Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy
You’ll find Nifflers at Niffler Dens scattered throughout The Highlands in Hogwarts Legacy. These appear on the map as animal paw icons, but inconveniently, the same symbol is used for all types of animal dens – Unicorn, Puffskein, Jobberknoll, Mooncalf, etc.
To help you track down Niffler dens quicker, we’ve pinpointed the closest one to Hogwarts in the image above. The den is located in the Forbidden Forest north of Hogwarts. The nearest fast travel point is the Jackdaw’s Tomb Floo Flame.
Aside from the Forbidden Forest, you’ll find a total of seven Niffler Dens in The Highlands, specifically in Feldcroft region, Hogwarts Valley, Poidsear Coast, Cragcroftshire, and Manor Cape.

Head to the den and scope out the area. Before starting the capture process, we recommend equipping a spell set with Accio/Levioso/Arresto Momentum, the Nab-Sack, and the Disillusionment spell.
We recommend using the Disillusionment spell beforehand as an added bit of stealthy cover to avoid scaring off the beasts as you get closer. Once you’re near enough, target a Niffler and cast an immobilizing spell like Accio, Levioso, or Arresto Momentum (or two of them to be safe) to keep them from scampering off. Immediately cast the Nab-Sack spell.

It’s one of the better ways to make money in Hogwarts Legacy. Rinse and repeat as needed.

How to Get a Shiny Niffler in Hogwarts Legacy?
Hogwarts Legacy also features shiny Nifflers that differ in appearance to the standard variant. These can be found in very much the same way as normal Nifflers at dens throughout Hogwarts Legacy. If a Niffler is shiny, it will have a star symbol next to its name and gender. RNG plays its part here, so you may need to advance time or fast travel away and back to reset the den population a few times before you find a shiny niffler.
