TL;DR

  • Google will start migrating Reminders from Google Calendar and Google Assistant to Google Tasks next month.
  • The rollout could last for 15 days or longer.
  • Google Workspace users could have their Reminders deleted if Tasks isn’t turned on.

Remember back in September 2022, when Google announced it would migrate Reminders from Google Calendar and Google Assistant to Google Tasks? If you don’t, then you better prepare yourself because the process is scheduled to start next month.

According to Google, personal/free Google accounts will get a migration prompt starting on March 6, 2023. If you don’t accept the prompt, Google says it will automatically migrate you over sometime in Q2.

For those who use Google Workspace and have the Tasks service on, they’ll instead receive a voluntary prompt starting on April 12, 2023. However, Workspace users will be automatically migrated starting on May 22, 2023, if they haven’t already been migrated. Another important note, Google says that Workspace accounts that have Tasks turned off will not have their Reminders migrated over. These Reminders will be subject to deletion after June 22, 2023.

Google Tasks Prompt

Once the process is done, Google says users will be able to view and manage all to-dos in Tasks going forward. Tasks will also be accessible from apps like Gmail, Calendar, Docs, and Chat.

The tech giant also revealed how long the process is expected to take. Regardless of whether you have a personal account or a Workspace account, the rollout could last for 15 days or more starting on the day you got the prompt.

Unlike personal users, it looks like Workplace accounts will be afforded the opportunity to export their Assistant and Calendar Reminders. Additionally, these users will be able to continue using Assistant to manage tasks, but will have to adjust their settings.
