The new update also adds the Tow Hook Cannon which was teased before the new season kicked off, as well as two new game modes for Lego Fortnite
The Fortnite patch notes for update 30.10 are here! The game is live once again with a massive influx of content based on the legendary dad band Metallica arriving across the game’s many modes.
Fortnite Chapter 5 Season 3 launched three weeks ago with update 30.00 and outside of some hotfixes to make cars a bit less overpowered, Epic Games hasn’t updated it since. That is, until today. The Fortnite update 30.10 downtime has come to an end and we’re now in the era of Fortnite x Metallica which has brought your dad’s favorite band to Battle Royale, Rocket Racing, and – of course – Fortnite Festival, which has launched the new Fortnite Festival Metallica Pass with today’s update, plus all of the other modes have some Fortnite Metallica quests, allowing you to unlock some Metallica -themed items.
We’ve got the entirety of the Fortnite patch notes for update 30.10 below, just strap in, cause it’s a big one.

Lego Fortnite
Lego Fortnite doesn’t get quite as much Metallica love as the rest of the modes, but the Metallica skins all have Lego Styles, so the mode isn’t entirely left out! However, there are some major updates coming to the mode, as confirmed in the Lego Fortnite patch notes on the Fortnite Website

You can’t add a mode for the chill players without also adding a mode for the sickos, and Epic has done just that by introducing Expert mode which introduces the heavily-buffed Storm-Wild enemies, who will absolutely kick your ass (plus the regular enemies are stronger too, as a treat). Here are the default settings for Expert Mode:

Perma-limination
Permadeath is on by default in Expert Mode, meaning if you get eliminated, that’s your lot. However, there are ways to avoid the reaper’s wrath. You’ll be able to craft the Totem of Return once you have a Storm Core in your possession (which are dropped by Storm-Wild enemies) and if you’re holding one of those, you’ll return to your bed just like in regular survival mode. Plus, if you do end up perishing in Expert Mode, you can easily create a new Expert World, or return to one of the easier modes.
Symbols of courage
Players can unlock special trophies in Expert Mode to show off just how good they are at the game. These are as follows:
-
Grasslands Trophy : Unlock by defeating a Storm-Wild Brute in the Grasslands, then interacting with a Level 10 Grasslands Village.
-
Dry Valley Trophy : Unlock by defeating a Storm-Wild Sand Brute, then interacting with a Level 10 Dry Valley Village.
-
Frostlands Trophy : Unlock by defeating a Storm-Wild Frost Brute, then interacting with a Level 10 Frostlands Village.
Improvements, Adjustments and Bug Fixes
Low memory vs. to many constructs nearby
Before Fortnite update v30.10, you may have seen a high complexity warning in your world, limiting your ability to build. Update v30.10 will clarify whether this is because of low memory or too many constructs nearby .
If you get a low memory or too many constructs nearby notification, here’s how you can try continuing normal play:
-
Low Memory : Try reducing overall constructs, the number of unique constructs, or items and creatures. Moving away from dense areas or exiting and re-entering the world can help too. (Note: the amount of memory available depends on the platform you’re playing on.)
-
Too Many Constructs Nearby : Try spreading out constructs over larger areas. Also try using larger Building Parts rather than many smaller ones to achieve a similar result. Building in a different location or removing constructs you no longer want can also help.
More things
-
Villagers in the Rebel Village will no longer count towards the world Villager cap.
-
The world Villager count in the Village Hub will display the correct number of Villagers.
-
Skeletons will be less likely to spawn in Villages.
-
Lava Caves on Star Wars Island will have Rubies!
-
Animals will do a better job avoiding Campfires.
-
Wolves learned how to swim!

Fortnite Festival
Fortnite Festival Battle Stage
Fortnite Festival Battle Stage is a new PVP mode in which 16 players enter the stage and compete across the Festival Song library until only one is left standing (the lowest four being eliminated at the end of every song). Players can also use their Overdrive to attack other players to ruin their streak and prevent them from scoring higher.
In the 16-player public games the songs will be randomly selected across Fortnite Festival’s Featured songs, however in private matches you’ll be able to pick your own tracks. Fortnite Festival Battle Stage will remain available even after the Metallica Festival Pass has left the game on August 16, 2024.
Improvements and Fixes
Gameplay improvements
We improved Fret Forgiveness (a.k.a. ‘coyote time’), increasing the time allowed between when you strum a note on Pro Lead/Pro Bass and when you need to press the correct fret input. Players who felt like they did the strum and fret inputs at the same time should now get credit when they do so, even if one comes slightly before the other.
Additionally:
-
We updated button bind visibility to be on by default for Pro song parts.
-
Your Strum bind will be visible on the HUD. (Only one Strum bind is visible, even though you can have two different binds. The other one is visible in your settings.)
-
You’ll be able to deploy Overdrive during ‘song breaks,’ where you have extended time between notes.
Festival Questing
-
Quests for the Main Stage, Jam Stage, and new Battle Stage will all share categories. Daily Quests have been updated to include all three experiences.
-
You’ll be able to progress Jam Quests while Backstage when building your Main Stage setlist.
-
Many Main Stage Quests such as ‘Hit Notes’ and ‘Deploy Overdrive’ will also be completable on the Battle Stage.
Jam Track changes
We’ve adjusted the following Jam Track song parts:
-
Doja Cat – Say So : Bass
-
Epic Games – Streets Ignite : Lead
-
Epic Games – Streets Ignite : Pro Lead
-
Kelly Clarkson – Stronger (What Doesn’t Kill You) : Pro Lead
-
Metallica – Fuel : Pro Lead
-
Muse – Hysteria : Lead
-
Muse – Hysteria : Pro Lead
-
Panic! At The Disco – High Hopes : Pro Bass
-
Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock – It Takes Two : Drums
And that’s everything new in today’s massive Fortnite patch, we can probably expect a new update in the next few weeks before Epic Games staff heads off on a company-wide summer break (which is typically some time in July). The Magneto Fortnite skin is set to release on Tuesday, July 2, so that’s probably a safe bet.
